What compounded means

Compounded medication is prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy rather than manufactured and packaged by a pharmaceutical company. Compounded products are not FDA-approved, and they have not been through the approval process that a branded product goes through.

Dr. Carroll prescribes compounded medication when a dose between the manufactured steps is what a patient needs: brand-name pens come in preset doses, so the steps between them are fixed. If a brand-name product would suit you better, he'll tell you.
